When the U.S. Congress shifted its focus back to the Civil War, it halted treaty payments to the Dakota Indians, leading to devastating starvation within their communities. This neglect sparked a rebellion that would come to be known as "The Indian Wars." Tensions escalated as the Dakota sought to reclaim their rights and resources, igniting a fierce struggle for survival and justice. The uprising not only highlighted the dire consequences of broken promises but also marked a significant chapter in the fight for Indigenous rights in American history.
