Mobster "Baby Face" Martin revisits his old New York neighborhood, seeking connection but finding rejection instead. His mother disapproves of his criminal lifestyle, while Francey, his former flame, now lives as a syphilitic prostitute. Amidst these painful encounters, he reconnects with Dave, a childhood friend trying to launch a career in architecture. The streets are alive with the antics of the Dead End Kids, a gang of boys navigating the harsh realities of life in the East Side slums. Martin's journey highlights the stark contrast between dreams and the gritty truths of their environment.
