Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Jenkins became renowned for portraying comedic henchmen and tough-guy characters, earning the title of the "greatest scene-stealer of the 1930s" from the New York Times.

In addition to his film career, Jenkins lent his voice to Officer Dibble in the beloved cartoon *Top Cat* and appeared in numerous classic television shows, including *I Love Lucy* and *The Red Skelton Show*.
