Lennon grew up in Liverpool, where he developed an interest in music during his teenage years, inspired by the skiffle movement. His first band, The Quarrymen, eventually transformed into The Beatles in 1960. As the band's unity began to falter in the late 1960s, Lennon launched a solo career that led to the creation of landmark albums such as John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, featuring timeless classics like "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine." By 2010, Lennon had sold over 14 million solo albums in the U.S. alone and had contributed to 27 number-one hits on the US Hot 100 chart. He was recognized in a BBC poll as the eighth-greatest Briton and was ranked fifth in Rolling Stone's list of the greatest singers of all time. Lennon's legacy continued to be honored posthumously, with inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 199
