Jonathan Ames, a disenchanted writer living in Brooklyn, grapples with the aftermath of a tough breakup, exacerbated by his heavy drinking and a stalled second novel. Instead of confronting his issues head-on, he escapes into a world of imagination, taking on the role of a private detective. Driven by a desire for adventure and heroism, Jonathan seeks to solve crimes and create excitement in his otherwise mundane life, often dragging his magazine editor into his outlandish escapades.
