Set against the backdrop of World War I, The Monocled Mutineer recounts the infamous uprising at the Etaples Training Camp in 1917, just before the Battle of Passchendaele. Charismatic rebel Percy Toplis escapes while masquerading as a British officer and quickly becomes entangled in a passionate romance with the enchanting widow, Dorothy. Based on the true story of the real Percy Toplis, a charming rogue and master of disguise, this provocative BBC drama, adapted by Alan Bleasdale from the book by William Allison and John Fairley, blends romance, humor, and intense conflict.
