Shaun Micallef’s Going For Broke

Shaun Micallef has never seen the point of gambling, but in this new documentary series, he places his first bet in decades and travels across Australia to understand why its citizens are the world’s biggest losers. Across three episodes, Shaun digs into the nation’s tangled, passionate relationship with a flutter, showing how a once-casual pastime has turned into a finely tuned machine designed to keep people betting more often and for higher stakes. By putting himself in the middle of the action, Shaun offers a unique view of an industry operating right out in the open. With wit, empathy, and sharp questions, the series asks viewers to reconsider what gambling truly means today, who’s paying the cost, and whether Australia is going for broke.
