John Amsterdam serves as a unique homicide detective in New York City, blending brilliance with an air of mystery and a penchant for recklessness. His life took a dramatic turn in 1642 when he rescued a Native American girl amid a brutal massacre. Grateful for his bravery, she placed an ancient curse on him, granting immortality but with a catch: he will remain ageless until he discovers his one true love. As he navigates the complexities of his eternal existence, Amsterdam grapples with the challenges of love, loss, and his unyielding quest for redemption.
