Rein Raamat’s Hell brings to life the haunting engravings of Estonian artist Eduard Wiiralt through a surreal and provocative animated short. Drawing inspiration from Wiiralt's early 1930s works—“The Preacher,” “Cabaret,” and “Hell”—the film presents a vivid tapestry of chaos, indulgence, and brutality, reflecting the tumultuous backdrop of Estonia's waning independence during the Great Depression and rising European unrest. The animation captivates viewers with its grotesque imagery and intense themes, inviting them into a nightmarish world that captures the essence of a society on the brink.
