John Adams: Doctor Atomic

John Adams' opera, featuring a libretto by Peter Sellars, makes its European debut in a collaboration between the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and De Nederlandse Opera. The narrative delves into the intense pressure and turmoil faced by scientists and engineers at Los Alamos as they ready for the historic "Trinity" test, the first detonation of an atomic bomb. Through a blend of haunting music and poignant storytelling, the opera captures the moral and emotional weight of a pivotal moment in history.
