Franco Alfano, renowned for completing Puccini's unfinished Turandot, also crafted several operas, including his 1936 adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac, with a libretto by Henri Cain that draws from Edmond Rostand's classic play. This poignant opera explores themes of unspoken love and loyalty amid romantic confusion. The eloquent Cyrano, hindered by his prominent nose, struggles to confess his feelings for the beautiful Roxane. Instead, he channels his poetic prowess through his charming but tongue-tied friend, Christian, leading to a tale rich in swashbuckling adventure and emotional depth.
