In "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," accomplished author Dito Montiel gets a call from his weary mother, urging him to come back home to see his sick father. This prompts Dito to reflect on his tumultuous upbringing in a rough Queens neighborhood, where he navigated life alongside his childhood friends Antonio, Giuseppe, Nerf, and Mike. Their shared experiences shaped his youth, marked by both camaraderie and the struggles of their environment. As he revisits these memories, Dito confronts the complexities of his past and the lasting impact of his roots.
