Berlin '36

Berlin '36 unfolds the poignant tale of Jewish high jumper Gretel Bergmann, whose dreams are shattered when the Nazi regime replaces her with Dora Ratjen, an athlete later revealed to be biologically male. Set against the backdrop of the 1936 Summer Olympics, this gripping drama highlights the harsh realities of discrimination and deceit. Although based on true events, the film sparked controversy, with Der Spiegel reporters questioning the timeline of the authorities' discovery of Ratjen's identity, suggesting that it wasn't until 1938 that they realized the truth. Released in Germany on September 10, 2009, it remains a powerful exploration of injustice.
