The Seburi Story

Set against the backdrop of World War II, the Seburi people of western Japan face profound challenges as modern society encroaches on their traditional nomadic lifestyle. As military police forcibly recruit Seburi men, the community grapples with both external pressures and harsh internal customs, particularly those affecting women. Practices such as solitary childbirth and severe punishments for adultery highlight their cultural struggles. Amidst this turmoil, nature compounds their difficulties, with winter storms and avalanches wreaking havoc on their tent-dwelling existence, further emphasizing the tragic clash between tradition and modernity.
