Hogtown

A man's sudden fortune leads to his mysterious vanishing in this reimagined tale of Ambrose Small, set against the backdrop of 1919 Chicago. The film employs striking black-and-white cinematography to highlight the era's racial tensions, blending intentional anachronisms with director Daniel Nearing’s postmodern approach for a surreal atmosphere. While the investigation into Small's disappearance drives the narrative, Nearing cleverly shifts focus to explore the era's complex characters and deepen the overarching sense of intrigue. The film invites viewers to ponder the enigma of wealth, identity, and the secrets that lie beneath the surface.
