Joan’s feelings for Victor have cooled, yet the guilt of pretending otherwise weighs on her. Her best friend Alice insists that passion isn’t essential—her own bond with Eric runs smoothly without it, though she remains blind to his secret affair with their mutual friend Rebecca. When Joan finally musters the courage to end things, Victor vanishes without a trace, sending shockwaves through their tight-knit circle and unraveling the delicate threads binding all their relationships.
