Beyond Madness

Beyond Madness unfolds as a mesmerizing collection of visual vignettes rather than a traditional narrative. Each scene is introduced by Zanuso, who reads from his own book of aphorisms, often accompanied by quotes from renowned philosophers. The film presents a series of striking tableaux vivants, dreamlike in quality, that evoke a sense of accumulation and ambiguity. Zanuso, embodying Diogenes with his lantern in search of humanity, infuses the imagery with psychoanalytic undertones. Ultimately, the focus lies on the visual impact and the exploration of the "sublime and perverse," a hallmark of his artistic vision.
