PRIMO, adapted by Antony Sher from Primo Levi's poignant memoir, IF THIS IS A MAN, recounts his harrowing year in Auschwitz. Premiering at the National Theatre in September 2004, the production quickly garnered acclaim for its profound emotional impact. Sher delivers a remarkable performance that mirrors Levi's clear and reflective writing style. Under Richard Wilson's skilled direction, the play comes to life within Hildegard Bechtler's striking, symbolist set, creating a haunting portrayal of one of humanity's darkest chapters. This theatrical experience resonates deeply, prompting reflection on the resilience of the human spirit amidst unimaginable suffering.
