A 20-year-old student’s restless spirit navigates through time, weaving together four poignant tales set against India's backdrop of hardship, natural calamities, and political turmoil. A middle-class household faces devastation as monsoon rains flood their home, while another family's ethics falter amid a devastating famine. Meanwhile, young boys resort to smuggling rice to survive, and politicians express hollow sympathy for the impoverished while enjoying lives of comfort. Calcutta 71 powerfully reflects the resilience of the human spirit amidst adversity and the stark inequalities that persist in society.
