Paul Steward, an editor for a scientific journal, grapples with feelings of profound emptiness and failure in his life. After a restless night, he resolves to end his family's suffering. That evening, he plans a horrific act—taking a rifle to kill his wife and three children before turning the gun on himself. As he contemplates this dark decision, the weight of his despair and the fragility of life come into sharp focus, leading to a tense exploration of desperation and the search for meaning in a seemingly unfulfilling existence.
