David Bowie’s inaugural trip to America coincided with the promotion of his third album, *The Man Who Sold the World*. As he traversed the country on a publicity tour, the musician began to envision his legendary Ziggy Stardust persona, drawing inspiration from the likes of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. This journey not only marked a pivotal moment in Bowie’s career but also laid the groundwork for a character that would become synonymous with glam rock and redefine his musical identity.
