Church & State chronicles the unlikely alliance between a bold, inexperienced gay activist and a small law firm in Salt Lake City as they challenge Utah’s ban on gay marriage. The narrative explores the turbulent journey toward equality in the state, revealing the significant role of the Mormon Church in local politics and the internal conflicts within the LGBTQ+ community that threatened their efforts. This tale of struggle and perseverance highlights a little-known lawsuit that, against all odds, contributed to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage across the country.
