Major Daniel Kirby steps into leadership of a Marine squadron on the brink of battle, only to discover his team is untrained and often shirks responsibility in favor of complacency. The core issue lies with his second-in-command, Captain Carl 'Griff' Griffin, whose exceptional flying skills are overshadowed by his reluctance to make tough calls. Kirby grapples with instilling discipline and confronting the harsh realities of command, as he must prepare his men for the inevitable dangers of warfare, forcing them to face their fears and embrace the weight of their duties.
