Across the Bay from the Golden State Warriors, another team faces a different kind of battle. The San Quentin Prison basketball squad, comprised of players whose lives have been marred by felony convictions, seeks redemption through the sport. This compelling documentary, Q Ball, captures their journey as they navigate the challenges of rehabilitation. Central figures include Harry “ATL” Smith, an aspiring NBA player on the verge of parole; Anthony “Ant” Ammons, a lifer mentoring younger inmates; and head coach Rafael Cuevas, a convicted murderer dedicated to guiding his players toward a brighter future. For them, the team transcends mere sport; it’s family.
