Debbie Smith's life took a drastic turn in 1989 when she was violently raped while her husband, Rob, slept upstairs. The traumatic experience left her grappling with fear and a broken sense of safety, compounded by the lengthy process of justice that followed. Six years later, a coincidental DNA test finally identified her attacker. Fueled by the staggering number of untested rape kits and the prolonged suffering of countless women, Debbie dedicated herself to reforming laws surrounding sexual assault, determined to ensure that no one else would endure the same painful wait for justice.
