Have Fun in Pyongyang

Exploring the notion of joy in North Korea, this documentary challenges perceptions of the Democratic People’s Republic. It questions whether happiness can thrive amid the regime's strict control and highlights Kim Jong-un’s investments in amusement parks, ski trails, and tourism. Through eight years of immersive filming, the creators, acting as amateur anthropologists, delve into life beyond the typical narratives of military parades and crises. Viewers are introduced to the country’s citizens, witnessing their celebrations, harvests, and everyday experiences, painting a more nuanced portrait of life in the isolated "Hermit Kingdom."
