A unique blend of religious allegory and theatrical presentation, the story unfolds as a woman faces a celestial trial after dying in childbirth outside of marriage. The eerie jailer dons a death's head mask and nun's garb adorned with ominous symbols, while God presides over the proceedings, flanked by angels. The devil seeks to condemn her for her transgressions. Shot with a handheld camera that lends an unsettling dynamism, the film juxtaposes vivid flashbacks of the woman's life against its surreal, ritualistic imagery. Its raw, amateur style foreshadows the American Underground cinema movement of the 1950s and 60s.
