Sarafina!

Set against the backdrop of apartheid South Africa, students grapple with the oppressive imposition of Afrikaans in schools, igniting a powerful uprising reminiscent of the Soweto Riots of 1976. Central to the narrative is Sarafina, a passionate schoolgirl who finds herself motivated to challenge the status quo after witnessing the tragic shooting of classmates by police. Emboldened by her teacher, Mary Masombuka, portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg, Sarafina rallies her peers to protest against injustice. Despite the turmoil, the film concludes on a hopeful note with a vibrant farewell performance, celebrating the resilience of youth amidst adversity.
