Following her father's funeral, Ann Chapin reflects on the last five tumultuous years of his life, marked by political setbacks and a troubled marriage to a self-absorbed and discontented wife, with alcohol as his only solace. As memories resurface, Ann discovers a hidden chapter of her father's life—a fleeting yet genuine experience of joy and love that contrasts sharply with his otherwise bleak existence. This revelation prompts Ann to reevaluate her father's legacy and the complexities of his character.
