Canyoneering, an adventurous blend of hiking, climbing, rappelling, and swimming, gained mainstream attention after Aron Ralston's harrowing story of self-amputation in a canyon in 2003. As the sport's popularity surged in the late 90s, driven by internet exposure, thrill-seekers flocked to canyons, regardless of their experience. "Gorging" follows three key figures—a canyoneering instructor, a trailblazing pioneer, and a guidebook author—as they navigate the influx of enthusiasts drawn to this perilous activity. The film delves into the thrill-seeking culture, exploring both the allure of adventure and the risks that accompany it.
