Gwen Isaac’s observational documentary captures the tumultuous journey of Siouxsie Wiles, a microbiologist whose striking fuchsia hair and expertise thrust her into the spotlight during a national pandemic. As Wiles navigates the complexities of public perception, she becomes a symbol of hope for some while being labeled a “satanic witch” by others in a polarized New Zealand. The film offers an intimate look at her dedication and the societal challenges faced during a crisis, highlighting the fine line between heroism and villainy in the eyes of the public.
