As he witnesses the desperate struggle of European Jews fleeing the Nazi threat and the advancing German forces, he grapples with the rigid policies of his government, bound by a treaty with Nazi Germany, and his growing moral obligations. From his early days in Manchuria to his pivotal role in Lithuania, his actions define him as a true hero.
