Canners

In the bustling streets of New York, gleaners sift through heaps of discarded trash, collecting soda cans for a mere nickel each. Kirchheimer's documentary unveils their rich tapestry of experiences, woven with humor, tragedy, and an indomitable spirit. While their relentless efforts often go unnoticed or are met with disdain, a few compassionate souls, like doormen and Good Samaritans, offer assistance instead of looking away. The film poignantly captures the grit and determination of these overlooked individuals, shedding light on their daily struggles and triumphs amidst an indifferent urban backdrop.
