Set against the backdrop of Australia in 1910, a young Alan Marshall (Alexander Outhread) grapples with the transition from childhood to adulthood, driven by his ambition to become a skilled horseman like his idol, the enigmatic trainer East Driscoll (Russell Crowe). Despite the challenges posed by polio, their friendship deepens, revealing East's secret affair with the sophisticated Grace McAlister (Charlotte Rampling). As East’s obsession grows, he pressures Grace to leave her husband, leading to heart-wrenching consequences.
