Dolls explores the theme of puppetry as it intertwines with the lives of its characters. Central to the narrative is Matsumoto and Sawako, a young couple whose bond is threatened by Matsumoto's parents, who demand that he enter into an arranged marriage with his boss's daughter. As societal pressures mount, the couple faces the painful possibility of separation, mirroring the strings that bind puppets to their puppeteers.
