Claude Lanzmann dedicated over a decade to crafting this monumental documentary on the Holocaust, opting for original interviews instead of archival footage. He categorizes witnesses into three distinct groups: survivors, bystanders, and perpetrators. Through poignant testimonies, viewers hear from survivors of the Chelmno camp, an escapee from Auschwitz, and witnesses of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The film also includes a harrowing account from an SS officer detailing the gas chambers at Treblinka, creating a powerful narrative that confronts the atrocities of this dark chapter in history.
