The City Dark

The City Dark delves into the phenomenon of light pollution and its impact on our night skies. Filmmaker Ian Cheney, who transitions from the tranquility of rural Maine to the hustle of New York City, poses a thought-provoking question: are the stars essential? His journey takes him from Brooklyn to Mauna Kea and Paris, where he investigates topics like the risk of asteroids, hatching turtles in Florida, and injured birds in Chicago. Through breathtaking astrophotography and insights from various scientists, Cheney highlights the alarming effects of artificial light, including rising health concerns and a generation deprived of celestial wonders.
