Foreign Letters captures the poignant journey of friendship against the backdrop of the 1980s, before the digital age. Ellie, a young immigrant from Israel, grapples with homesickness and challenges at school while eagerly awaiting letters from her best friend. Her life takes a turn when she befriends Thuy, a Vietnamese refugee. Their deepening connection brings joy but also conflict, leading to moments of hurt that threaten their bond. As Ellie navigates the complexities of trust and acceptance, this heartfelt film, inspired by director Ela Thier's own experiences, explores themes of resilience, prejudice, and the transformative nature of friendship.
