Yasujiro Ozu's Good Morning offers a whimsical exploration of generational discord, centering on two boys who refuse to speak after their parents deny their request for a television. Through their silent protest, Ozu cleverly critiques adult absurdities from a child's perspective, filling the narrative with subtle humor. Set in a vibrant Tokyo suburb, the film captures the daily lives of housewives gossiping about appliances and husbands struggling as door-to-door salesmen. This delightful comedy serves as a playful homage to Ozu’s earlier work, I Was Born, But..., playfully critiquing the rise of consumerism in postwar Japan.
