Set against the backdrop of 1990s France, the narrative explores the lingering repercussions of World War II. Following France's early defeat by Germany, an armistice in 1940 divided the nation into German-occupied northern regions and the semi-autonomous Vichy France. This puppet government, ostensibly independent, actively collaborated with German authorities to facilitate the persecution of Jews. The establishment of the Milice, a police force aligned with the Germans, exemplifies the betrayal and complicity of the Vichy regime, revealing the dark complexities of loyalty and moral choices during a time of crisis.
