Sita Sings the Blues

Set against the backdrop of 1920s jazz sung by Annette Hanshaw, a poignant narrative unfolds as the ancient Indian saga of exiled prince Ramayana and his beloved Sita intertwines with the struggles of a modern woman coping with heartbreak. Through her experiences, the film contrasts personal loss with the epic's themes of love and betrayal. A trio of Indian shadow puppets adds a playful yet insightful commentary on the historical context, enriching the story with depth and humor, while seamlessly blending past and present in a unique and engaging way.
