Award-winning filmmaker Bill Duke expands on the themes explored in his previous documentary, Dark Girls, with Light Girls. This thought-provoking film sheds light on the experiences of lighter-skinned women, delving into the complexities of colorism, privilege, and societal bias. Through candid interviews with notable figures such as Russell Simmons, Soledad O'Brien, Diahann Carroll, and India Arie, the documentary reveals the nuanced dynamics of skin tone preferences and the emotional toll they can take. By amplifying these voices, Light Girls sparks an essential dialogue about race and identity in contemporary society.
