After Ruth Matthews's husband dies in a tragic accident at an archaeological site, her daughter Sally reacts in an unsettling way to the loss. As Sally's mental state deteriorates, Ruth seeks help from Jake, a specialist in childhood autism. While Jake employs conventional therapy, Ruth chooses a more unconventional path. Driven by desperation, she ventures into Sally's psyche, trying to understand her daughter's strange behaviors, which include constructing a magnificent house of cards. This journey blurs the lines between sanity and madness as Ruth navigates the complexities of grief and connection.
