A young bureaucrat with the Tennessee Valley Authority travels to rural Tennessee to manage a dam construction project. He faces resistance from locals, especially a farmer who disapproves of his hiring black laborers from the community. The narrative centers on the contentious eviction of a determined elderly woman from her island home, intertwined with the bureaucrat's burgeoning romance with her widowed granddaughter. The film delves into themes of love and conflict against the backdrop of social change, preserved by the Academy Film Archive in collaboration with The Film Foundation.
