Han van Meegeren, a gifted artist in 1920s Amsterdam, rebels against the art establishment that dismisses his work as outdated imitation of masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer. To challenge their judgment, he creates a convincing forgery of a Vermeer, successfully deceiving the critics. Rather than confessing, he capitalizes on his newfound success, producing numerous fakes while entangled in deception. As his lies escalate, his life spirals into chaos. The stakes heighten when Hermann Göring, a high-ranking Nazi, arrives seeking a genuine Vermeer for his collection, putting Han’s fate on the line.
