Eighteenth-century France serves as the backdrop for the controversial Marquis de Sade, who reflects on his provocative explorations of pleasure and pain. His unapologetic lifestyle and writings push societal boundaries, ultimately leading to his arrest for indecent conduct. As he navigates the tumultuous landscape of his desires and the oppressive moral climate of his time, de Sade's life becomes a complex tapestry of art, rebellion, and the quest for freedom in a world that seeks to confine him. The film delves into the mind of a visionary marked by both brilliance and transgression.
