May, a retired burlesque performer, shares the stage with her daughter Peggy in a chorus line. Tensions rise when Peggy steps in for the feuding featured dancer, Bubbles, who storms out after a quarrel with May. As Peggy finds romance with affluent Randy, her mother grows concerned that their differing social backgrounds could spell trouble for the young couple. The story navigates the complexities of love, ambition, and the challenges of bridging class divides in the pursuit of happiness.
