Set against the backdrop of the early 1970s' social upheaval and the late '60s counterculture, Quatermass explores a near-future society captivated by the "Planet People" cult. This movement draws in countless youths who flock to ancient landmarks, convinced they will be whisked away to a utopian existence on another planet. As the cult's influence grows, Quatermass confronts the unsettling implications of their beliefs and the desperate quest for meaning in a turbulent world. The film delves into themes of hope, disillusionment, and the human desire for escape.
