History often goes unwritten, yet the people of Africatown in Mobile, Alabama, have preserved their ancestral stories for generations. Founded by descendants of enslaved individuals brought over in 1860 on the notorious Clotilda, the community has long grappled with its painful past. Although the ship was deliberately sunk to erase its legacy, the recent revelation of its remains provides a profound connection to their heritage. This moment not only validates their history but also empowers the community to reclaim their narrative and honor the sacrifices of their ancestors.
