Guy Trilby, a jaded forty-year-old with a disdain for the world, exploits a technicality in the National Golden Quill Spelling Bee's regulations to compete against a group of eager children. His unorthodox participation stirs controversy, drawing both ire and intrigue from parents and organizers alike. As he navigates the competition, Guy's abrasive personality clashes with the innocence of his young competitors, leading to unexpected moments of humor and introspection. Ultimately, his journey challenges not just the rules of the bee, but also his own cynical worldview.
